And shape the EHDS implementation in Belgium

Various HDA working groups have been created to inform stakeholders about the HDA’s activities in specific domains and actively involve them in the implementation of the EHDS in Belgium. This way, the perspectives of different stakeholders are taken into account and the EHDS implementation will be widely supported. By joining a working group, you can actively contribute to this implementation.

Working group 2 : Data catalogs and request.

Access to health data is essential for research, innovation, and improving health policies. But how can we ensure timely access while ensuring that this does not disproportionately place burden on data holders?

In WG2, we are working to:

  • Expand the number of datasets available in the HDA catalogue and improve their findability;

  • Improve the data request process for greater efficiency and smoother access;

  • Align the data request process with that of the EU, to allow for secure EU-wide data sharing;

  • Collaborate with data providers to simplify and accelerate data availability;

Working group 6 : HDA in an interfederal and international context.

In Working Group 6, our goal is to align Belgium’s approach with European and international frameworks in collaboration with key stakeholders. We explore roles and responsibilities in the Belgian health Data ecosystem and the role of the Health Data Agency in both the Belgian and global context.

What we focus on :

  • Defining HDA’s role in national and international health systems;

  • Defining Stakeholders roles and responsibilities according to the European Health Data Space (EHDS);

  • Strengthening partnerships between governments, researchers, and private sector players ;

  • Preparing for the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) at both national and international levels.

Working group 7 : Health Data Academy.

Working group 7 develops training programs tailored to the needs of:

  • Healthcare professionals

  • Citizens

  • Researchers

  • Policy makers

By joining this group, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Share your ideas and expertise on health data education;

  • Suggest training topics to increase the data literacy of the health ecosystem;

  • Provide feedback on training content and teaching methods;

  • Help define the best approaches to make these programs accessible and effective.

Your insights can help shape the future of health data training!

Working group 8 : Secure Processing Environments (SPEs).

Working group 8 defines standards and technical requirements for Secure Processing Environments (SPEs).

We are working to ensure that health data is processed securely, efficiently, and in full respect of privacy by focusing on:

  • Safe and controlled access to data;

  • Appropriate use of anonymization and pseudonymisation techniques;

  • Clear flows for data exchanges;

  • Secure and up-to-date technical environments.

We are developing guidelines on security, interoperability, and responsible data use to strengthen Belgium’s digital health system while ensuring alignment with European standards.

Are you involved in digital health, data security, or privacy? Join us to help shape the future of secure data processing in Belgium.
