Who owns the data?
In Belgium, just like in Europe, the law does not define data ownership, but it provides a foundation for privacy and data protection. Indeed, there are responsibilities established for the data holders regarding their security and usage. In addition to responsibilities, certain rights are granted to citizens to control their personal data. As such, citizens have the right to access their data, modify them if necessary, and the right to erasure allows them to request the deletion of their personal data through the competent institution, here the Data Protection Authority.
